Countless fish have died following a spill from the Willowton Oil factory on Tuesday. Photos showing this kind of devastation have been taken up to 40km downstream from the factory, and in KwaXimba – the first overnight stop during the annual Dusi Cane Marathon – people were scooping up poisoned fish to cook and sell to people in the local community. Photos Dusi Media Office.

The three men walking away from this site had just washed and taken home a few dead fish to cook. 

A common sight along the river banks in KwaXimba this week. In the video below, two men talk about boiling the fish to clean it, and then frying it to eat.   The video was supplied by a local resident, Sakhile  Shezi.
